4 out of 5 stars Almost perfect...   October 27, 2007
This book is amazing. What more can I say than has already been said? From the art, to the data, to tech info on Headmasters, Targetmasters, the space bridge, etc, it's a must have for the G1 Transformers fan.br /br /However, and this is an annoying however for me, both volumes are missing some things:br /br /1) No female autobots, except Arceebr /2) No Autobot Spikebr /3) No Orion Paxbr /4) No Primusbr /5) No Terranadon (sp?) Primus' creationbr /6) No Spike, Sparkplug, Carly or Danielbr /7) No seekersbr /

4 out of 5 stars Nice companion book (Volume 1 of 2)   September 29, 2005

An enjoyable book listing the personalities and abilities of numerous Generation 1 Transformers. I picked up the book out of nostalgia sake (grew up with the original Transformers) and enjoyed it! It's unfortunate the Dreamwave Productions publishers went out of business though. Their work on the Generation 1 Transformers help promise and potential. I recommend picking up the Dreamwave trade paperbacks collections if you enjoy the original 80's Transformers.

3 out of 5 stars Volume One.....for any hardcore fan   September 7, 2005
Yes...Im a big fan of the decepticons, and a huge dork about the transformers.. The book is great, but the pages are really small, volume one only goes up to the letter "P"...so all the other characters are in the second volume, which I think is a load of crap !!! $25 bucks for half the characters..you'll end up spending $50 bucks !! thats crazy !! just a way to get more money out of our pockets right..dont get me wrong, its a a good book, but you only get half the characters and the book is small.

4 out of 5 stars Good, but not definitive.   September 6, 2005

These two volumes represent Dreamwave's effort to provide a guidebook for all of the G1 transformers. I'm not talking about inductively coupled wire coils, but the fiction spawned by the 1980s toyline. br /br /Transformers are silicon-based lifeforms from the planet Cybertron with the ability to change into different objects. Two groups, Decepticons and Autobots, wage war against each other. Under most versions of the story, Deceptions attack and board an Autobot spacecraft, which ends up crashing into Earth a long time ago. Volcanic activity today awakens the Autobot spacecraft, which erroneously rebuilds the Decepticons as earth machines, identifying them as the planet's dominant life. The Decepticons, with classic characters like Starscream, Rumble, and Soundwave, under Megatron's leadership set out to enslave the planet's "fleshing" inhabitants and use its natural resources to make Cyberton the galaxy's predominant military power. The Autobots, with the help of a few humans (and the opposition of others!) work to stop them. br /br /At its best the entries really shine, but the comprehensive effort lacks consistency and generality across universes. The outstanding penciling in many places left me in awe. I observe, however, all characters are not drawn at the same skill level. Moreover, the coloring lacks complexity and takes away from the penciling to some extent.br /br /The guidebooks are very comprehensive. For instance, I really appreciate the personal information on individual micromasters. The entries on omega sentinels, pretender shells, size/mass conversion technology, teleportation, sparks, space bridges and so forth also add a nice touch. I'm annoyed by the presentation of the neo-G1 history as if it is authoritative; I suspect most fans regard this history as a strange aberration that strays too far from the original stories.br /br /Overall, one hesitates to take the "official" guidebooks as gospel, but they're still fun items to own.

This book contains lots of info about your favorite characters from the original Transformers including the toy characters as well. It also includes some characters' personal rivalry with another. I highly recommend this book for any Transformers Fans.
